Rider undergoes more check-ups on knee on Tuesday

The knee injury which Björn Leukemans got at the Tour of Flanders means the end of his spring season. After a week of check-ups, recovery and treatment he had to pass on Paris-Roubaix and now on the rest of the spring classics too. The knee pain stays for the leader of Vacansoleil-DCM and a MRI on Tuesday has to give more clarity on the duration and source of the injury. The pain that doesn’t go away is an indication for doctors to fear for a damaged meniscus.

Of course Leukemans was disappointed: “It is difficult not to ride in the races I worked towards. My knee doesn’t look good at all and and the fear is that it needs operation.”

Missing the Belgium rider in the coming races is a big loss for the Dutch WorldTour formation of Vacansoleil-DCM. In 2011 Björn Leukemans finished in the top-10 of the Amstel Gold Race and Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
