Experienced rider to strengthen team for 2013

As from January 2013 Juan Antonio Flecha will be part of the Dutch World Tour Vacansoleil-DCM team. The 34 year old Spanish rider fits in with the profile that the team drafted after this year’s classics. Team manager Daan Luijkx sees the signing of the all-rounder as a logical step: “This spring we had a hard time getting results after Leukemans was injured. We proved in stage races that riders like Thomas De Gendt and Wout Poels have become world class but in the classics there is still a way to go for our young riders. Therefore we started looking for a rider who can share his experience with young riders and who can also ride finals. Flecha is, like Leukemans, someone who can be a captain on the road. To sum it up; this guy has been world class for many consecutive years, has a great track record and brings experience from several top teams.”


Juan Antonio Flecha is happy to join the team: “I am looking forward to racing for Vacansoleil-DCM in 2013. I had a great time at Sky but I see new opportunites at Vacansoleil-DCM, whose team race a little differently. Vacansoleil-DCM focus on stage wins and ride aggressively in many races. This way of racing will give me the chance to show what I am good at and I will try to achieve some wins in stage races and classics.”
