Vacansoleil-DCM sprinter Borut Bozic won the fifth stage in the Tour of Switzerland.

In a slightly uphill arrival, Slovenian rider Bozic managed to stay ahead of Oscar Freire and Peter Sagan. Bozic saw his team mate get caught up in the last few meters but he still managed to claim a win for his team.

It was Bozic's first stage of the season and he surprised himself, saying, "I didn't feel that good and told Marcato to take a chance so winning was unexpected and a great feeling."

Sports director Jean-Paul van Poppel watched an exciting last kilometre from his team, saying, : "Although Marco didn't make it, it was good to see Bozic take the win. We had a good chance in yesterday's stage but the sprint proved too hard for us. The victory today is just what Bozic needed."

The rider who won a stage in the Tour of Spain has had not much luck so far. After a good start in the Tour of Italy Bozic crashed twice and he was forced to abandon the race. "Due to the crashes Bozic couldn't follow up to a start in the Giro and get the results he was aiming for in the season. However, after the Giro we made plans with Bozic. We decided he would firstly compete in the Tour of Luxembourg to build him up for races and then we agreed the Tour of Switzerland was a race that would help him get some good results in the Tour de France. The plan is coming together nicely." concluded van Poppel.
