Barry Markus

Neo-pro, Barry Markus, started his 2011 season in a convincing manner with his win in the Ster van Zwolle and immediately afterwards his victory in the Dorpenomloop Rucphen. The rider from Hoofddorp proved that he was not just someone who can perform the bunch sprints. In the Ster van Zwolle he won the sprint from a breakaway group after a selective race. The Vacansoleil DCM Team Management immediately classified Markus as high potential and he got the chance to show himself in the Tour of Britain as a trainee. With his drive and a respectable fourth place in the bunch sprint of the opening stage, he earned a place in the team for 2012 and 2013. Unfortunately for him he broke his collarbone during that British Tour, which meant his season ended earlier than expected.
