Barry Markus

Neo-pro, Barry Markus, started his 2011 season in a convincing manner with his win in the Ster van Zwolle and immediately afterwards his victory in the Dorpenomloop Rucphen. The rider from Hoofddorp proved that he was not just someone who can perform the bunch sprints: In the Ster van Zwolle he won the sprint from a breakaway group after a selective race. The Vacansoleil DCM Team Management immediately classified Markus as a rider with great potential and he got the chance to show himself at the Tour of Britain as a trainee. With his drive and a respectable fourth place in the bunch sprint of the opening stage, he earned a place in the team for 2012 and 2013. After a year with the professionals, Markus now knows where his opportunities lay. The young rider will have to ride himself into the bunch sprint and like every young rider at Vacansoleil DCM, he can sometimes grab his own opportunities.
