Westra stays on track in nervous race.

After Bert-Jan Lindeman was in the break on Monday other Vacansoleil-DCM riders attacked on Tuesday. Kris Boeckmans, Thomas De Gendt and Romain Feillu tried to attack in the stage with mainly headwind. Boeckmans got some boni-seconds and waited for the bunch while a bit later De Gendt, Feillu and two others attacked. Sport director Hilaire Van Der Schueren saw an active squad: “The two guys in the break didn’t go full gas and it was the idea of Thomas to be in front in case of echelons. They didn’t suffer too much in the break. We like to race attractive and it gives us focus while in the meanwhile we need to make sure that Lieuwe Westra is in good position before the first hills.”

Eventually the stage ended up in a bunch sprint in which Romain Feillu got seventh. Lieuwe Westra remains fourth in the general classification. Bert-Jan Lindeman kept the in the mountain classification.
