Experienced exercise physiologist is a new force in team's staff.
On 3rd January 2012 Vacansoleil-DCM will, along with 9 new riders, also present a new face in the staff for 2012. As from this winter Marc Lamberts is involved with the World Tour team as trainer. The coach who graduated from the University of Brussels has over ten years of experience in coaching endurance athletes.
Lamberts has been working with riders like Stijn Devolder, Kenny van Hummel and Nikita Novikov since November. He will help out one third of the team with training schedules and most of the other riders will be monitored by the Powertap system. The power meters, which all riders use, will be accessible online for Lamberts, doctors and sport directors.
Operational manager Jean-Paul van Poppel is looking forward to the cooperation: 'A more scientific approach seems the next logical step for our fast-growing team. A lot of our riders have their own trainer who have known their body for years and in the past all problems were investigated by our sport physicians. Now we work with Marc to gain more control on training and season planning. His knowledge, in combination with the race fun and keeness of our riders, will take us forward.'
Lamberts is also enthusiastic: 'I spoke to Daan Luijkx and van Poppel a year ago and we decided the time was right for the next step. With power meters and a strong organisation we now have the opportunity to do a good job in coaching and following the riders.'
Marc Lamberts will be present at the team presentation in Maastricht on 3rd January.
