Rider has surgery on collarbone and hand

After his crash in La Marseille, Martijn Keizer had surgery the following day in Herenthals by Dr. Claes. The rider went home the day after the operation and had time to reflect on his condition: ‘There’s an iron plate in my collarbone and metacarpal bone. The bones have reset and there is no need for a plaster cast. The expectation is that I can be back on the roller in a couple of days, but today I feel pretty stiff.’

Keizer has already seen some advantages from the crash: ‘With the freezing temperatures in Holland it isn’t so bad to sit on the roller. In the coming days I will have close talks with the sports directors and doctors on how I’m going to be rehabilitated. The expectation from the doctors in Herenthals is that I could ride a bike without any problems again in two weeks, maybe even ride in a race again. After all the preparation during winter, riding again in two weeks would mean that I haven’t missed too much.’
