The Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team was given the professional status by the UCI organisation on 2nd December 2008. This means that the team has been given authorisation to professionally compete in all European Tour races.

In addition, before the end of January all Pro Continental teams will find out whether they will receive a wild card which will entitle them to compete in various Pro Tour and Monumental races.

In 2008 the cycling team was initially a Continental Team known as 'P3transfer-Batavus' and managed by Daan Luijkx. Now Vacansoleil is the main sponsor and the team has successfully obtained a licence as a Pro Continental Team. Starting on the 1st January, the team will be one of three Dutch professional teams in the pack, with top cyclists like Clément Lhotellerie, Björn Leukemans and Bobbie Traksel.
