Vacansoleil-DCM revealed their team for the upcoming cycling season at the Vaeshartelt Castle in Maastricht today.

There are twelve newcomers among the 29 riders. General Manager Daan Luijkx told the international cycling press that he’s not only happy with his acquisitions, but also with the fact that he was able to continue working with the talented young riders who were very important to the team.

“Discovering and developing young riders like Wout Poels, Thomas De Gendt and Pim Ligthart has become a signature for us”, said Luijkx. “We have full confidence in these riders and in recent months this has been demonstrated by extended and upgraded contracts.” As well as the team line-up Luijkx praises the professionalism within his team since Jean-Paul van Poppel joined the squad last year. “With Marc Lamberts as our new trainer we have made continual growth in technical support for our riders and their development. As we continue to strive to be at the top of the sport this will once again be one of our main objectives.

‘Confidence’ was the theme during the presentation of one of the two Dutch World Tour formations. Expectations for the new year were also included. “In last year’s Tour de France we were happy to be in the breakaway of the day, however, now we expect more than just that. We have the riders to be able to do it. Ambitions are clear: a top ten ranking in a final, a stage win in one of the big tours and a podium finish in a monumental classic. I'm really looking forward to the World Championships in Valkenburg too.”
