Steady mountain stage without any real excitment

The second stage in Tour Down under covered the148 km to Stirling. Conditions were much more pleasant than during stage 1 and soon two riders took the lead. The Australian Will Clarke took one minute on the peloton until the finish when his fellow fugitive couldn't remain in front.

Sergey Lagutin finished as best Vacansoleil-DCM rider in around 15th place. Lagutin was pleased with his form: “I want to work for the team from January till Lombardia, and I am full of good intentions. I don't drive badly and I am wondering what I can do in the Queens stage on Saturday”.

While Marcello Pavarin lost the leading mountain classification, Romain Feillu, Mirko Selvaggi and Thomas De Gendt were in the first section of the peloton.

Wouter Mol and Kenny van Hummel finished behind the peloton, mainly due to the crashes of yesterday.
