Stage 3 ends in a bunch sprint.

Before stage 3 to Victor Harbor, the Vacansoleil-DCM sport director Michel Cornelisse planned to get some bonus seconds. He targeted his riders who were still in front of the general classification after 2 days of racing. So the fact that Thomas De Gendt was in the break away of the day wasn't a surprise for the team. De Gendt stayed in front with three others until 40km to go. During the break he took the intermediate sprints and the mountain points. When the break was caught, a bunch sprint followed, which was won by Greipel. Romain Feillu was the best Vacansoleil-DCM rider and finished 13th.

At Victor Harbor, the Belgian rider De Gendt got to go on stage twice. He won the prize for the most agressive rider and took the lead in the mountain classifcation. Meanwhile the 25-year old moved up to 4th place in the GC, 16 seconds behind leader Greipel: " We know that Saturday will be decisive and that makes it important to take every advantage you can. Michel asked me and Mirko Selvaggi to attack, so I did and got away. Now it's a matter of seeing if I have the legs to be in front in the queen stage on Saturday.”
