The Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team has strengthened its ranks by signing Dutch cyclist Gerben Löwik (31) and Italian Matteo Carrara (29). Both riders have signed a one year contract for 2009. The new Dutch Pro continental team now consists of 21 riders. Gerben Löwik is an experienced rider and will be a great asset to the team. In addition to once coming third in the Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne, he is also an experienced cyclist in shorter races, which was proven by his final victory in the Ster Elektro Tour and the Circuito Franco Belge. Team manager Daan Luijkx is very positive about his new signing saying, “Gerben is well respected within his profession and a role model for other riders. Everyone will listen to any advice he may have, which will result in good performances and team morale. He is very enthusiastic and I am very pleased to have him in my team.”
